Halloween can be a love it or hate it time of year for many, where many of us find ourselves stockpiling sweets for the inevitable ‘trick or treat’ knock on the door. If you’re into scary movieS, halloween customes and the like it can certainly be a fun one. Stamford doesn’t exactly go all out in celebrating this time of year, but there are some spooktastic events on should you be looking to make the most of the occasion.
– On the afternoon of Sunday October 26th 1.30pm to 3pm there is a free children oriented event called Spooktacular at Stamford Recreation Ground (Recreation Ground Rd, Stamford PE9 1EJ). There’s games, prizes live entertainment and competitions for the kids including a best halloween / fancy dress outfit competition. There’s even a category for pets, so it should be eventful, or possibly terrifying if you happen to be passing by and don’t know what’s going on! It’s not the first time this free ‘Stamford Town Council and The Friends of Stamford and Rutland Theatre’ halloween event has been held, so it’s bound to be both well organised and good fun.
– There’s also The Burghley Halloween Trail from 18th October – 2nd November. Always an impressive setting, giving it a ‘sprinkling of spooky’ makes it ideal for the kids as part of a halloween rail that involves collecting clues and receiving a reward if you complete the supplied trail sheet. Don’t be scared, come along!
– Stamford Town Guided Tours will also be adding a twist this halloween with their ‘Spooky Tales’ Halloween dates. Both publicly available and private Halloween tours are available to book (7pm and 9pm, as well as a 5:30pm Childrens tour). Cost is £9 for adults and £6 for children. Some dates are already sold out, so hurry. “will you see a ghost…. will living conditions and tales from long ago make you shudder ….. will you go home looking over your shoulder……..? ” they ask. Book to find out!
On Saturday 1st November, thousands headed to theStamford Welland Academy for an organised fireworks display. A bonfire stall and fair rides made it a fun night for all. The forecast rain didn’t stop the crowds from attending and proceeds made on the night will be going to charitable causes. The bonfire was lit at 6pm, and fireworks display at 6:30pm. Useful to know if you couldn’t attend, to get an idea of timings for next year.
