Sat on the edge of Lincolnshire (where three other counties also converge; Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, and Rutland), Stamford is a picturesque market town brimming with history and charm. With its beautifully preserved Georgian architecture, Stamford has earned the reputation as one of England’s finest stone towns. The banks of the River Welland offer scenic walks, while the nearby Rutland Water Nature Reserve is ideal for birdwatching, sailing, and cycling.
Cobbled streets, medieval churches, picture postcard pubs and restaurants, and of course the town’s centerpiece; the magnificent Burghley House just south, a grand Elizabethan mansion surrounded by expansive parklands designed by Capability Brown. This stately home is a ‘must-visit’ for history enthusiasts. It’s also home to the Burghley Horse Trials.
Every Friday, Stamford’s bustling market brings with it a variety of fresh produce, artisan goods, and local crafts. A smaller markert is also held every Saturday. In addition to this, the town is dotted with independent boutiques and shops, as well as quaint cafes, perfect for leisurely shopping and dining.
Stamford boasts a lively cultural scene with its own theatre, the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre, hosting a diverse range of performances from drama and music to comedy. There’s the Stamford Arts Centre too, home to a mix of movies and live shows, and music at some of the town’s late night venues. There’s much to see and experience.
