MindSpace Stamford

mindspaceThe importance of mental wellbeing cannot be overstated, but we don’t necessarily appreciate that in our culture.  A ‘stuff upper lip’ and soldiering may sometimes work as a strategy, but what about when it doesn’t and you have few other tools at your disposal to get mentally back on track. That or you’re not particularly in a bad spot but would like a friendly, impartial voice to have a back and forth with, but it isn’t there. Or you want to share or take up a hobby or interest with like minded locals but aren’t quite sure where to start. Well, the Stamford wellness and mental health support group MindSpace might be just what you’re looking for.

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Dan Petrie what started as a talk or listen drop in cafe has since gone from strength to strength, and this community minded charity now runs weekly free of charge activities and events. They work with schools and businesses too, to give people the tools they need to help themselves, and just as importantly, others maintain good mental health. Encouraging positive mental health can get to the core of moving beyond issues you’re stuck on, combatting loneliness and at its core making people feel that they are being listened to in a non judgemental way. We all know how important that can be, and it’s no different for others, whether it’s a family member, friend, neighbour or stranger in need.

The events and services offered by MindSpace, which cover Stamford and surrounding areas are impressive and it’s no wonder that fundraisers routinely contribute to the charity, which has recently moved to a new and larger premises of 6 Red Lion Street, Stamford.

Activities and Services offered by this MindSpace Stamford hub include:

– Mindfulness

– Arts and Crafts

– Group mettings designed to help with drinking / hourding / grief etc

– Tea and Coffee based chat sessions

– Listening sessions

– Autism Support

– Citizens advice drop in sessions throughout the month

– Sports and Fitness (boxing, coach to 5k running groups, walking groups, basketball)

– Games nights

– Expressive Art

In short there’s something for everyone, and the full scehedule is available here. Not every town is lucky enough to have services offering so many support. It’s important that we both appreciate MindSpace and other ventures like it, and just as importantly use them is we need them!
