If you’re looking to explore Stamford in the day, why not check out the myriad of cafes or shops on offer in the town, or go for a wander to Burghley House (which also holds an activities events), or other Stamford Walks. There are of course a number of picturesque walks in the area to explore. The above Gimbal Walk video gives a good idea of what to expect from the town, visually and atmosphere-wise.
Further afield there’s always Rutland water or Tallington Lakes too, for a more adventure packed day. Tolethorpe open air theatre is another option with both Shakespeare and more modern performances a couple of times a year, or perhaps venture out to Easton on the Hill to see the National Trust maintained Priests House (Priest’s House, 38 West Street, Easton on the Hill PE9 3LS ) – a 15th-century rectory. Impressive historic buildings in Stamford include St Leonard’s Priory, and St Mary’s Church.
If it’s a friday or Saturday ( between 8.30am and 4pm) then why not check out the thriving and varied Stamford Market, or if you’re fitness minded there is of course the Stamford Leisure Centre for those wanting to swim a few lengths or use the gym. The monthly subscription cost is actually pretty good value.
There are pubs and restaurants galore in Stamford and should your night continue into the wee small hours, there’s of course the likes of Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge too if you’re into music that has both bite and beat to it! Alterntively if you’ve planned ahead, then perhaps you have a live show or movie to look forward to at Stamford Art Centre or Corn Exchange.
Events throughout the calendar year include the Mid lent funfair which runs a week from mothers day, Burghley Game & Country Fair in May, Stamford Festival in June and the Burghley horse trails in September
The tourism information centre is also part of the Arts Centre, so is well positioned should you be looking for further info or advice.
