Burghley House is a grand Elizabethan 16th-century English country house situated near Stamford, Lincolnshire. It was built by Sir William Cecil, chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. Construction started in 1555 and was completed ba little over 30 years later. The house has over 80 richly decorated rooms, including state rooms, private family quarters, and a chapel, as well as beautiful and extensive gardens and parkland designed by Capability Brown, one of England’s most famous landscape architects. The grounds and some rooms are open to the public and there’s an expansive woodland adventure playground area for the kids (featuring a maze, climbing walls, lookout nests and more).

Interetsing side notes include rumours that it’s haunted by the ‘Grey Lady’  the spirit of a servant who died tragically in the house). It’s also need used as a film location for various movies and TV shows. It served as the setting for Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s residence, Rosings Park, in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” and was also featured in the 2018 movie “The Favourite”.
