Stamford is known for it’s beautiful georgian buildings, bustling market, and hundreds of years of fascinating and varied history. Exploring this site will show you all it has to offer, from pubs, cafes and restaurants to walks and meals out. It’s a real gem and is uniquely situated on the edge of lincolnshire. Interestingly four counties, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire all meet just west of Stamford, hence the Stamford Four Counties walk.

Stamford itself with its limestone streets and picteresque appearance has been a popular filming location for the likes of  BBC’s Pride and Prejudice (1995) and even modern movies such as Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro’s adaption of Frankenstien (2025) which filmed at the impressive Burghley House. Highlights include the majestic St. Martin’s Church, which dates back to the 14th century, and the beauitful Stamford Meadows, set on the River Welland. The equally impressive Rutland Water, perfect for bird watching and watersports is just down the road.

When it comes to places to visit in Lincolnshire, there’s Grantham,  15 miles northwest, the birthplace of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Belton House, a National Trust property with beautiful gardens to explore. Market Rasen, another historic town set in the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, and famous for its race course. With a blend of Georgian and Victorian buildings, surrounded by stunning landscapes, it’s ideal for walkers and nature lovers. Horncastle too, with its quirky unique shops and 12th-century St. Mary’s Church, and Spilsby, birthplace of the famous explorer Sir John Franklin, with landmarks aplenty.
