With so many pubs and bars in the Stamford, Lincolnshire area, there’s no right or wrong way to do a Stamford pub crawl. As such, we present a couple of options below to enjoy a night on the town
POSH PUB CRAWL (£££)
1. The Bull & Swan (Start: 4:00 PM)
- Kick off your pub crawl at this historic pub known for its cosy atmosphere and selection of local ales. It’s the perfect spot to begin the evening with a relaxed pint. Check out the Ski Chalet too!
2. The George Hotel
- Just a short walk away, enjoy a drink at this elegant coaching inn. A refined spot, high end spot with historic charm in abundance and a tucked away bar area ideal for a more refined stop for cocktails or beers.
3. The Tobie Norris
- Head to this character-filled 13th-century pub, with its quirky upstairs rooms and great selection of often changing real ales. Friendly staff and a lovely setting for a pint.
Alternative: if you’re feeling in more of a wine, cocktail or spirit mood there’s always The Wine Bar next door
4. The Kings Head
- A friendly traditional pub known with a welcoming atmosphere and good range of beers and ciders. Ideal for a laid-back drink inside or out. Nicely nestled in the centre of town, so you’re set for a lovely walk to the next stop (though not necessarily in a straight line).
5. The London Inn (End: 10:00 PM)
- End your crawl at this lively pub, popular for its bustling atmosphere and occasional live music. It’s the perfect place to finish off with late-night drinks. The terrace is a nice spot for some pissed up Stamford people watching.
Alternative: Nearby The Crown, with a relaxed yet upmarket feel, is another option worth considering for your last stop.
This pub crawl keeps the focus on Stamford’s best pubs, mixing historic charm and a lively, modern yet traditional finish. If you’re instead looking for a pub crawl that involves still having some money in your pocket at the end of the night and/or showing off your dance moves if you’ve eventually had one too many, then check out our locals pub crawl below.
‘THE LOCALS’ PUB CRAWL (££)
1. The Stamford Post (Start: 4:00 PM)
Start your evening at this Wetherspoons pub housed in what was once the home of The Stamford Mercury, Britain’s ‘oldest continuously published newspaper’. Maybe not a traditional ‘local’ but cheap & cheerful and familiar beginning with a wide drink selection. You’ve hit the ground running.
2. Millstone Inn (Nearby alternative: Golden Fleece)
A cosy traditional pub that’s friendly and has a warm local feel to it. TVs typically showing sport are a feature, in a venue ideal for a laid-back pint. Outside seating, and oven fired pizzas are available too if you want to cushion the blow of incoming pints!
3. The Jolly Brewer
Another ‘local’ in which you’ll often see familiar faces and a welcoming crowd. A ‘proper beer pub’ with a wide selection of drinks on offer ans a pool table if you fancy demonstrating that you’re still (just about) sober.
4. The Green Man
Craft beers as well as the usual offerings, in this historic pub with a unique character and style looking neon lit jukebox. Outdoor seating around the back. A lovely little spot.
5. Mama Liz’s (Start: 10:00 PM)
End your night at this independently owned, quirky, music-centric venue with an alternative vibe, perfect for live performances (often there’s a DJ in the main bar, and sometimes an act in the ‘Voodoo Lounge’ cellar) and drinks.
Alternative: If you’re not feeling the groove there’s always The Lord Burghley, which is ideal for some no nonsense sinking of a further pint or two!
For pub locations and details check out our comprehensive pubs list.
The pub crawls above are timed to finish at 10pm on the assumption that some people won’t live locally, and may want to take a train afterwards. The above can of course be tailored to match your particular day or night out. If you’re grabbing a bite to eat during your pub crawl, it might make sense to book ahead. Personally I find The Kings Head and Mama Liz’ to be ideal for a bite to eat. If a takeaway is on the cards, I’d recommend Nepalese and Indian restaurant Kanchhi.

See below for an example of a Stamford Pub crawl stopping at many of the above pubs. It comes courtesy of ‘The Great British Pub Crawl’ Youtube channel. A Notts based couple on a mission to have a drink in every pub and bar in the country (rather them than me but thanks regardless guys!). Having visited 2000 pubs so far, they delcared Stamford ‘the best place we have visited thus far’. A good taster for your trip!
